After a short hiatus from hosting wine & cheese pairing events, it felt incroyable to be back!
For this first of the year, we invited Anna M. Viducic of Aroma Wine Co & Sera Wine Imports to help us select three French wines to be paired with six different fromages.
The first wine we tasted was Bila-Haut Pays d’Oc Rosé 2021 – with its delicate strawberry notes – paired with Buchette Aux Fleurs (a fresh goat cheese coated in edible flowers from Poitou-Charentes) and Feta-style Valbreso (a fresh sheep’s milk cheese from Occitanie).
Both pairings were absolutely refreshing and delicious.
Second, we tasted Chauvet Frères Beaujolais Blanc 2019 and paired it with Brebicet (a bloomy-rind sheep’s milk cheese from the Rhône-Alpes) first, and then with Comté (a classic raw cow’s milk cheese from the Jura Mountains). Had someone told us we were tasting cheese and honey (without the sweetness), we would’ve believed them. Both cheeses went so well with the wine!
At last but not least, we chose Ferraton Père & Fils Côtes du Rhône Villages Plan de Dieu 2020 to go with P’tit Basque – a sheep’s milk cheese from the Basque region, and Fourme d’Ambert – a cow’s milk blue cheese from Auvergne. While one cheese stood out for its subtle caramel -y notes, the other could turn any Bleu skeptic into a blue cheese lover!
When combined with the wine, both pairings felt like a dessert we didn’t know we needed.
Now we just can’t wait for our next Fromage et Vin: Accords Parfaits Event!
Santé!
